This is a must-have application. For me, if there ever was a time that the app was not supported in the next generation of Mac OS, I would not update my Mac. This app should be purchased by Apple... Its that good. Could not live without it. I have it on my Macs, my iPad, and my iPhone, all seek perfectly… It is what Bento and FileMaker should have been. Support is fantastic.
I have now been using TapForms for over a year and I continue to find more and more uses for it. Previous review. I have now been using for months and love this app. I have never lost my data. But if I did, I back up my data weekly or more often, sometimes. PREVIOUS REVIEW: The Tap Forms App exceeded all my expectations. You can customize the database forms for anything you can imagine. You can store contacts, passwords, travel information, restaurants, frequent flyer data and much more. For instance, I created a story for each Hebrew character and use that for remembering vocabulary words and how to spell them. It was easy to make up a form to store that data. Anything you are interested in you can store; the only limit is your imagination. I have created my own databases (you have an extensive choice of fields to choose from, such as voice recordings, drawing, phone numbers, locations, photos, text, and so on). You choose which fields are useful for the database you are building. Or, you can begin with forms that already have been designed and modify them to fit your needs. Most of the fields in your databases are elegantly linked to other applications in the iPhone, such as the voice narration, telephone and maps. You can edit or add fields even after you begin to enter data. It has a sophisticated backup system which you need to learn how to use on a regular basis. The App is very stable and the customer support is outstanding. The program does not seem at all simple at first, and there is a learning curve required. It took me several days to master it. Before purchasing, I would suggest that you first download the free Tap Forms Database Lite app and see if it seems to meet your needs. [Several years have passed since my last review and I want to say thank-you so much, again. And thanks for incorporating fingerprint touch as a way to skip password. Keep up the fantastic work.]
I don't understand why this app is getting such bad reviews. I'm using version 4.0.7 and have no problems. I have not opted to upgrade to version 5, so I guess that's the difference where the others are having difficulties. I have given this app glowing reviews in years past and have used it regularly ever since in my business for customer scheduling. I sync an iPhone and three different generations of iPads at the same time without issue. I came here to check out what this version 5 was all about; and though I will wait to upgrade, I believe the developer will work hard to correct any issue the feedback reveals. As far as the folks calling the developer "greedy" for charging $16 for their work product, I can only assume they've never been an entrepreneur. There is nothing wrong with charging for a product, work performed or a service. That's how most people are paid! Grow up already. Give up a couple of those $6 cups of coffee and call it even. 😑
This was a great app that I used for several years. In 2016 the developer decided to change syncing methods. I've tried to adapt to the new syncing method three separate times without success. That's my limit. I'm deleting the app. Now I hope to find another form app with iCloud and/or Dropbox syncing that works half as well as this one does. What a waste. :-/
Rather than respect and appreciate long time supporters this developer has chosen to reward loyalty with greed. A reasonable upgrade fee would have been appropriate. Shame on you for having no existing customer loyalty. I recommend not purchasing this app or supporting this developer as I myself now choose to no longer do. Unfortunately.
My Tap Form started crashing ever time I try to put information in. Please advise what to do
I really wanted to love this software because there is a lot to like. The developer is very responsive. The sync between devices is REALLY hit or miss meaning that it doesn't work very often
I am with many others who have been sucked in by this app. First I got one version for my iPad then was told by the developer that I needed to upgrade to be able to sync between iPhone and iPad! Wrong! They did not work for iCloud had to create an ibm account which by the way folks will charge you for data usage! I agree greedy app developer. I went back and forth about the issues with him repeatedly getting no where except out 25.98$$ because of the iTunes purchases which were suppose to be only 8$ per the developer. Extremely mad about this never again because iTunes DOES NOT REFUND FOR BAD APPS! Like most people I don't have a ton of money to throw away on stuff that doesn't work!
This app is working great for me. I am so glad that Bento died. The design makes data entry fast and easy. I would really like a geo search function that would find all entries that were within a specified distance of a point. Now the location field is not very useful for searches. Syncing works well too. Version 4
Pricey upgrade(s) I was going to tolerate, but also dropped iCloud sync. Done.
can sync and backup to icloud or dropbox
looking for bento replacement....this one just makes syncing your database between the mac and the iphone a nightmare....constant fails...dosnt sync on its own... have to reset syncing to make it work....always wondering if I'm going to lose my data.... Bummed that I spent so much on the desktop and phone app....
Instead of upgrading current version this developer constantly comes out with a new version with a hefty price. Extremely greedy!
This is already an expensive app. The developers decision to put out a new version of this app instead of releasing an update in an attempt to force existing users to pay an additional $16.99 is outrageous. I'm a long-time user but I will not be spending any more money with this developer. Instead I will be switching to another app since there are several on the market that have the same functionality and are also as good or better than Tap Forms 5.
Bought this version (which was already a pretty expensive app to begin with). You put out a new version instead of updating this app and doubled the price. Won't be purchasing anything from this developer again.
Still not impressed. Get another database if you need relationships and links.
There seem to be too many versions. I use tap forms on MacOS and wanted to be able to use it on iOS as well. But when I buy, it immediately encourages me to upgrade to tap forms 5. Don't make your users figure out which version of your app they need.
Another purchase for long time users. I gave this app 5 stars previous to this update. Now I don't care, they are leaving me, I am leaving them. Beware purchasers of the new app, it'll happen again. It's a temporary purchase until they want more money to stay current.
Best database program I have ever used on any format. Period. Even though I was concerned a few times about problems with certain updates, customer service handled it with outstanding timeliness. If you are looking for a database this is the program for you. I will admit the learning curve is a little steep sometimes, however it's well worth the effort!!! It will help organize you business and your daily life! 6stars! ----- ----- ----- ---- PS--- Now using this app for a few YEARS and still use it EVERY DAY!!!
it's really a helpful application in my business
After 30 years and no support or breaks on cost with FileMaker, I finally tried a new personal database application. The conversion has been easy and only a couple days I like it more than the program I had been married to since 1991!
The program itself is great. Unfortunately, syncing between the iOS and Mac versions is completely and utterly unreliable. Most of the time it won't sync at all. A couple of times it has destroyed my database trying to sync. I really wished this worked but without reliable syncing it is practically useless to me.
I actually use this database for performing medical calculations such as correcting ventilator settings or for adjusting insulin doses. It works extremely well for calculations in addition to working well as a database.
This is a great app if you need simple tables that can be sync between all your Apple devices. But the best part of this app is the excellent tech support from the developer. Since I got it, I needed support in a couple of times, and I got an immediate email response in both cases. I extensively recomend Tap Zapp Software Inc.
I've bought and tried them all and this one does the best job. I do wish the iOS forms were customizable but it's not a huge deal.
This is an amazing app I couldn't live without. Is easy to set up a database to log almost any kind of data. It is as powerful as expensive apps costing much more. The downside is that there are quite a few features that are awkward and not done the standard iOS way. It is as if the developers only use an iOS device to develop this app and have no idea what a typical user expects. For example sharing. The share icon is used for several other functions so it hard to find the actual share menu. To finally get to the standard share menu you know and love, the one that is a single click or menu choice in other apps, is a multistep operation on this app and needs action on several menu levels. Very un-iOS. It is so buried that you will not find it unless you ask on a forum. I'm certain most users don't know there is a share menu. On the other hand these are annoyances. This app is a personal database tool tool and that job it gets right.
This is app is really exceptional. It's versatile and easy to use. Customer support is phenomenal. If you need a mobile database this is the best there is. I keep very detailed logs of my hobbies and there is nothing on the market that comes close to tap forms for power and flexibility. The fishing log I created is head and shoulders above anything I can buy ready made in the App Store!
What makes this app so awesome is its extensibility. Its potential is limited only by your imagination. I purchased it in 2010 when I needed an app to store website passwords securely. Most password apps have a dedicated fixed-use; their fields are designed for website passwords or credit card numbers, and nothing else, because the fields can't be customized. You'd need separate apps to store the different data fields that are unique for websites, banking, insurance, and credit card accounts... security questions, phone numbers, renewal and expiration dates, names, mailing address, group codes, etc. Tap Forms is nothing like other data storage apps. It didn't take long to realize this app is in a class of its own. I created new forms or customized the built-in forms to track just about anything I could ever want: - passwords for more than just websites, like computer logins and application systems at work - serial numbers for home appliances and valuables - any type of account info: credit card, savings/checking, investment, health/home/life/car insurance, home utilities - clothing sizes - padlock combinations - recording episodic data and multiple variables to export for trend or statistical analysis - vehicle oil changes and your last haircut - travel expense reports; even take a picture of the receipt and a voice memo of who attended The magic of this app is that it's really a mini-database on your iOS device, allowing you to create about any form using a wide variety of data types. Examples: calculation field type, performing simple numeric or time math using data from the other fields; GPS location; drawing; file attachments (transfer to your device using the built-in web server); and link to other forms. The import/export/backup/built-in web server/DropBox/iCloud support allows you to share and protect data. You can encrypt the entire database or select fields. There's a Tap Forms for Mac, too, and it'd be great to have my data everywhere, but I don't use the computing platform. This is a great app!
I have been using Tap Forms on my iMac for about 6 months now...It saved my bacon after Bento was no longer supported in Yosemite. I am a painter with lots of info on each painting in each record. Sometimes I am asked questions about an older piece and now all of that info is available to me on my iPhone. It works (and syncs to my iMac) like a charm. I did have a few installation questions and support was back to me within an hour of writing my email. I only regret not having bought this sooner.
I've been using Tap Forms on my Mac ever since the demise of Bento... The transition was easy, the customer support is the best I've ever experienced from a company, and now the iOS version is excellent as well. Highly, highly recommend it
I have been looking for a good database app since the demise of Bento and this app is it. Actually this app puts Bento to shame. Tap forms is easy to use, looks and feels like a high priced database and customer support is right on top of it. I requested a feature and they responded to it very fast. My search for the perfect database is over.
Continues to address concerns as needed. Regular updates are refreshing.
This app is very powerful and very reliable with your data. It's got some quirks that frustrate me, that the developer says he'll look into but apparently doesn't have time to fix, but as much as I would like a better app, I have found no better app. Apart from being powerful and reliable, this app is also very flexible. It is a good go-to app when I want to do something creative with information/data that doesn't fit into any other app.
Would be 5 stars if iCloud sync worked.
After using another app (won't mention which one) that has not issued an update in over 2-years, I simply had enough and kicked them to the curb! The Tap Forms app along with the desktop version is absolutely the best! Just read all of the reviews! You won't be disappointed!
This was exactly what I was searching for. I needed a lightweight database app that was very flexible and easy to use. This app satisfies both of those needs. The fact that is had a very easy sync process to both the iPad and my Mac is a plus, but that is also one of its shortcomings as well. When the sync works it's wonderful, but I find I have to reset sync way to often. Maybe in the future the developer can figure out a more robust approach to this issue. I know part of this issue is with iCloud and or DropBox, but maybe a offline sync to a Mac as a master would help solve this, but I digress.
After I bought this I felt the same way I do when I give a homeless person cash; disappointed in both of us. This was definitely an unexpected act of charity, because this app is horrible and the dev has my cash. It is that bad, it looks clunky and dated. Unfortunately, the app operates as smooth as it looks; not smooth at all. Simple things like a options for checklists or radio buttons on the UI. Obviously, these app ratings were paid for and manipulated. Anyone can build an ugly database with a clunky UI. Don't waste your time.... Give me a break.
I was so upset when Apple stopped supporting their Bento program. I use it to track all of my craft and sewing supplies. I continued using it, but kept being afraid that with every OS upgrade, it would stop working. I reluctantly searched for a new database program when I came across this program. This program is great- better than Bento! I was able to seamlessly transfer all my data out of Bento into this program. I also purchased the computer version and syncing between the two is flawless. I truly couldn't be happier- keep up the great job!
After multiple attempts with different settings and different devices, this app can't even keep 2 devices in sync through iCloud.
Tap Forms is a powerful tool. Great flexibility and amazing sync capabilities.
I purchased Tap Forms a few months as a replacement for Bento which was no longer supported. I was happy to discover that Tap Forms features a more powerful database engine than Bento had. For years I'd wanted the ability to do secondary sorts on my data and now with Tap Forms I can. I appreaciate the ability to store common searches as well. It's been very stable for me and the included imports brought all my Bento databases in without a hitch. I'm a very satisfied user of both the iPhone and Mac versions. The cloud sync works really well too!
I looked at and even purchased some other database apps. Tap Forms is definitely the best for me. I like that I can enter or read information on either Mac or IPhone. It is robust and very customizable too. I found the interface pretty intuitive as well.
Purchased TF based on reviews, and find it works reasonably well for my needs. But the app is aptly named because users must tap *a lot* to do things. Notes, for example, can't be edited until the user types "Edit" in the upper right corner, even though the user already tapped Notes to get to the Notes field. And choices are often buried several layers deep. In short, I think the app needs more finesse, especially as it's touted as a replacement for Bento.
This app is perfect and so customizable you can use it for almost anything. I currently use it to manage my business and could not function without it. I've been using it for a few years and feel like it's finally time to gloat about how great it is. On top of that - the one man shop that runs this app has excellent customer service. I occasionally have had to email him over the years about minor bugs or questions about the software. My concerns are always addressed immediately. Plus - in this day and age of every app charging a monthly fee to use there service it's nice to have something that's a one time - upfront cost - but that received continual updates. I love everything about this app. It sits in a class of its own.
Update 12/16/2015: been using Tapforms seems like forever. One of the best programs of it's type. Keep up the great work!
I really like this app I have several data bases set that I use almost daily I recommend it to anybody in need to organize their information
This has got to be the very best database for use across Macs and iOS platforms. I run it on my iMac, my MacBook Pro, my iPad, my iPad mini, my iPad Pro, and my iPhone. I’ve got my databases synching across all my devices, and it’s working beautifully. As far as I’m concerned, this is a gotta-have app. And works on my Apple watch, too? Perfect for the Apple fan who needs a workhorse database that is well-supported and often updated!
I was looking for something that facilitates management of information and end up with a gathering point for valuable data. This app leases itself to storing many categories or types of information. It is easy for me to input an assortment of different data together. You create a template akin to a form that you can fill in with new, real time data as you see fit. For example, I like to group my personal favorite apple apps together with relevant data like user name, passwords, website, support link, and even screenshot. Every time I open a new form, I input the necessary information so that over time, I have a collection that stays well organized. This information can be easy to find when I need it, because I forget a lot.
Sync needs fixed!!!
Used to be Great. Now Syncing Issues ruins it! 1. Used to be a solid database. Now Syncing is difficult to setup and keeps corrupting so that I have to continually reset syncing on all devices. FIX THIS ASAP!!! Sync should be easy and smooth as butter, not this complicated. Syncing now ruins this product. 2. Another issue I’ve had since the early days of this database is the concept of using pick lists. Pick list are great but sometimes I need need only drop down lists. Better yet make the ability to set pick lists up to be local to a database form or universal to all database forms. Sometimes I dont want to pollute my universal pick list list with a list only used once in a single form. Fix these and stars go back up. No. 1 is Sync! Fix this first.
